Katherine Gorge

Hi everyone, yesterday  I went on 2 hour boat trip at Katherine Gorge, which was a real highlight.  The photos don't do justice to how beautiful it is.  I could feel how ancient it was. There are 13 gorges in the national park, our trip only covered the first two.  We had to get off the boat and walk about 500 metres between the 2 gorges which was nice, passed a swimming hole with people splashing about!. There are freshwater crocs but they are harmless to humans.  In the Wet season saltwater crocs can be a problem so there are regular patrols & croc traps. I have seen photos of it in flood- the water rose to the very top which is hard to imagine.

I asked a person on the tour to take a photo of me, unfortunately their finger got in the way

Croc on a rock!

Very deep part of the water ( about 40 metres deep), the aborigines believed this is where the Rainbow Serpent lived & they were forbidden from swimming or fishing in this spot.

After the Gorge we went to Katherine railway station to see The Ghan arrive from Darwin on its way to Adelaide. It is about a kilometre long!

Above & below, looking to my left, then to my right along the length of of The Ghan
