On the way to Perth - Road Kill

Hi everyone, yesterday we travelled to Perth from Moora for a quick stop to get the VW serviced and track down two new front tyres, before we head south. On the way, our first bad luck after travelling for over a year, the rear drivers- side wheel on the van completely shredded after running over something sharp. We were travelling down a hill on the highway and suddenly things got rough! We managed to pull off the road although there was precious little room. RAC assistance did not arrive for another hour & a half, but eventually got us on our way.  So now we need to add a third tyre to our shopping list!
Remains of the tyre

Completely ******!

What is left of  the tyre on the rim, fortunately the rim wasn't damaged

You can see these triangles in the first photo as well. They are very heavy & do not get blown over by passing traffic.  I bought them before we left home for a situation just like this, as the van was right at the edge of the road & there were stacks of trucks wizzing past. In fact the guy who helped us had to constantly stop working & get off the road.
