Jurien Bay & The Pinnacles

Hi everyone, we have had a nice couple of days in Jurien Bay, although still very windy.  Our caravan park is right opposite the beach, and the water is beautiful & clear.   We leave tomorrow, heading inland to Moora, a town very close to where my father was born 96 years ago tomorrow.  We will stay there 4 nights & then head to southern WA, & then back to Perth for a few weeks over Christmas  Today we visited a national park to see "The Pinnacles" only about half an hours drive from here. The counrtyside around here is low scrub & sand dunes & we were not sure what to expect, but it was some of the most fascinating country we have seen, limestone pillars in a desert setting.

Little islands offshore

The new jetty curving out to sea.  This weekend is the "Indian Ocean Festival" in Jurien Bay, including the blessing of the fleet. A pity we are going to miss it!

Photos of the Pinnacles, these rocks are about 8 feet tall, there are lots of very different sizes & cover a large area.

The line of little rocks denotes the area you can drive, plenty of spots to park & take photos & walk around

Looking back to the Indian Ocean across the rock formations

Geologists are still baffled as to the formation of this area.  A local aboriginal dreamtime legend is that long ago, young men were warned not to enter this area of sinking sands, or they would be lost forever.  Some disobeyed & as they sank beneath the sands their fingers reached up in a desperate effort to save themselves.
