Longreach & Winton

Happy hour & meal on our last night at Longreach caravan park, The Woolshed Restaurant is in the park and featured great live country music.

This is  really sad, 3 years ago at Winton we visited this centre, where Banjo Patterson wrote Waltzing Matilda, it was a great experience. As you can see from below, it was burnt down in June. At least we got to tour it in 2012

Sculpture of Banjo Patterson, which survived the fire

After 2 months, the site in the main street of Winton still smells horrible, Really heartbreaking
Grae & I loved this when we were here last, a little theatre with a haunting rendition of Waltzing Matilda, sadly all gone.

Diner and entertainment last night at Winton caravan park
Australian Age of Dinosaurs museum.  "Banjo" the dinosaur behind me
Another use for a walking stick-fending off viscous dinosaurs!
The museum is located about 20 kms out of Winton, at the top of the "Jump Up", a very apt term for a hill or mound in an otherwise flat landscape.Looking back towards Winton. The ground is bone dry as a result of the drought, most stations have destocked as there is no feed for the animals.

Unique! I had a great deal of fun banging on the various "instruments" especially the drum kit below
