Derby

Hi everyone, some photos of Derby, a small town about 200 kms N/E of Broome. We spent 3 nights there. It is on the coast & on 3 sides is surrounded by tidal mudflats. It has one of the highest tides in the world. The tree below is a giant Boab tree.

View from our van, sunset on the mudflats

This tree is enormous & over one thousand years old. It was used as an overnight stop for aborigines who had been arrested or kidnapped to work on the pearl luggers (blackbirders) The picture  shows them chained to the tree.

Small concrete pool built in WW2 by troops to cope with the heat. It was the idea of a soldier called Frost, hence the name.

Graeme could not resist going for a hoon on the mudflats!
