Surrounds of Kalgoorlie

Hi everyone, some photos of Kalgoorlie.  The 2 photos below is about 7 kms out, where the locals used to play 2 Up.
It was hidden in the bush as the game was illegal back then.

We visited the Mt  Charlotte lookout today, photos below of the town & mine taken from there.

The white mounds are mine slurry- waste after the gold has been extracted, & pumped out in liquid form.

The end of the "Golden Pipeline"

Kalgoorlie

Hi everyone, we left Perth on the 27/12, very reluctantly!  We had an overnight stop at a little town called Merredin, then arrived at Kalgoorlie yesterday. This is the pipeline from Perth to Kalgoorlie  that runs alongside the road, carrying fresh water.  The weather is hot at the moment, high 30's.  We met a nice couple in Merredin who live in Kalgoorlie, we will catch up with them in the next couple of days.  We are here for 2 more nights.

This was an interesting stop, seeing part of the rabbit proof fence-curse that stupid pommy bugger that imported 24 rabbits in the 1859 for a bit of sport!  More information below.

Part of the fence above, & 1 of the gates below.

Roadside stop.

The pipeline running next to the road.

The Kalgoorlie goldmine, called the "Super pit" it is a massive hole! The tiny little dots in the the middle are big mining trucks

This photo was taken on maximum zoom from the lookout, the crane was about a kilometre away

Interesting facts & figures regarding the equipment used at the mine site. I liked the top lefthand one of the faceshovel-4 of them on site, each one costing 10 million dollars, maximum speed 2.1 kph!

Looking back to the town from the mine.
