Esperance

We've been here in Esperance WA for the last week and leave tomorrow, heading back east. We really loved it here, it has the whitest beaches in Australia and plenty of them.

View from the back window of our van
We really liked this exact replica of Stonehenge near Esperance. It was built over 9 months from locally quarried Pink Granite, and has 137 stones.  It was very peaceful wandering through it.

Graeme sitting on the 9 tonne altar stone

Pink Lake- bushfires about 30 kms away
Grae hooning on the dry lakebed
Bushfire smoke, taken from 9 mile beach.  The next day Esperance was shrouded in thick smoke the next morning and everything was covered in ash.

 Another enjoyable happy hour
Frenchman's Peak at Le Grand National Park, and below the park's beaches, where you can drive on the sand for miles.

From our back window, cruise ship visiting for the day.

In Norseman tonight, on our way to Esperance on the coast.  Norseman is the only Australian town named after a horse, after the horse found gold here;  he went lame and his owner found gold bearing quartz in his hoof
